BLOG POST #3
According to this website, “The biology of B. burgdorferi has been extensively investigated in the laboratory using several well-defined animal models under highly controlled conditions; it should be noted that in many of the animal models used, infection with B. burgdorferi commonly results in the wide-spread dissemination of spirochetes throughout the body and body fluids. The results of these studies provide no evidence of transmission by direct contact, transmission to the fetus from infected pregnant animals, and transmission by sexual contact. The CDC has no record of a single case of Lyme disease that has been sexually transmitted.”
I disagree with this well known website and its statement of Lyme Disease not being an STD.
I have to disagree with this website because I’ve heard and seen partners who were infected with Lyme disease and they ended up giving this disease to their other partner. I joined a Lyme disease group and had asked if any of the members thought it was an STD or if anyone had passed it onto their partners, there were many responses saying yes. Some people were diagnosed with Lyme disease and were told they were “cleared” from it with simple antibiotics. I’ve been in the same position like they were. I still had the symptoms and side effects. I had constant nerve and joint pain. I had asked my doctor and infectious disease specialist if Lyme disease could be passed through pregnancy or given to my partner and they said no. I think they don’t know what to say and lack of testing on this matter. People have to remember that sometimes a person had have Lyme disease for a long time and not show any symptoms or show negative on the Lymse Disease test.
A new study suggests that Lyme disease may be sexually transmitted. The study was presented at the annual Western Regional Meeting of the American Federation for Medical Research, and an abstract of the research was published in the January issue of the Journal of Investigative Medicine.
Here are some sites backing up the facts that Lyme disease can be a STD:
I also would advise to check out this videos talking about Lyme disease as the next STD to hit America.
