Jenny V Blog 6: Don’t Be Fooled!

Now that we livfact checke in a time where all the information in the world is right at our fingertips why are we still believing everything we read without researching the facts first? I feel it probably has something to do with the fact that it is easier to agree with something than to take the time to research and determine if what you are reading is credible or even true. It seems being lazy is the culprit but I am sure there are other factors that play into why we are so easily misled.

So how do you make sure you do not fall into the category of those who “fell for it” or built their beliefs on lies? RESEARCH AND FACT CHECK. Sometimes it only takes me a matter of seconds to determine if something is fake. Those seconds of your time can save you from looking foolish to people who know you.

My favorite site to use is snopes.com

http://www.snopes.com/info/whatsnew.asp

Usually anything that people post on Facebook can be found here which makes it such a valuable tool to help keep you from being pulled into the lies.

I hope next time you see a story that has gone viral about a mom who gave birth to 10 children and then sold them to the black market you think to head over to Snopes and make sure it is not a fake story before you start talking about it on all of your social media outlets.
