The Co-main Event of UFC 194 is a Middleweight battle between undefeated champion Chris Weidman and challenger Luke Rockhold.
This fight opened in July with Weidman as the modest -160 favorite, with Rockhold being offered at +130. After a bit of movement both ways, that’s where it sits at this moment.
Weidman fights from an orthodox (right handed) stance, and Rockhold from the southpaw (left handed) stance. The southpaw stance can give trouble to some orthodox fighters, but Weidman’s last three opponents have all fought from the southpaw stance, so he’s been preparing for the straight left hand for the past few years.
Stylistically, both guys are proven strikers, with an edge to Weidman. Given that, Rockhold may try to gum this fight up in the clinch and on the ground. I believe we may be in for an ugly fight, but with the Weidman winning in a decision. I don’t love the fight at the current prices, but if we see money come in late on Rockhold, and the market shifts that way, the safe bet (literally) will be backing Weidman.
