“Millions of spiritual creatures walk the earth unseen, both when we sleep and when we awake.” – John Milton
What is Spiritual Warfare?
According to the Bing.com definitions, “spiritual warfare is the Christian stand against preternatural evil forces.” However, according to God’s word the gospel (Bible) spiritual warfare means that we are in an invisible war, a war that we cannot see. In Corinthians 10:3-5 says, “though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” (ESV) The unseen spirits are everywhere, but ever since the fall of what Adam and Eve committed in, “The Garden of Eden,” then our eyes became blind to the spiritual realm. Heaven has separated from earth that very day when Adam and Eve took that first bit into the forbidden fruit, “The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.” In addition, “The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God,” says in Corinthians 4:4 (ESV)
Why do Satan attack God’s people?
Satan was not Satan from the beginning, God created him to be one of His most beautiful archangel, an archangel of the morning star. In Colossians 1:16 says, “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.” God created him to be one of His most beautiful creation, however, Lucifer (Satan) wanted more than just to be an archangel of God. He wanted to be a god himself, so therefore, he decided to ridge war against God who created him. Lucifer convinced a third of the heavenly angels to side with him, by going into war against God. Therefore, God knows everything about His creations, regardless what we think and what we’re about to do, He knows it all. For example, in Psalms 139:1-10 says, “ O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.”(ESV) Satan, eventually lost the battle against God when God sent Michael the archangel to fight against him and he was defeated. This was explained in Revelations 12:7-10, “Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him,” (ESV). Then Satan tricked Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden after his fall from Heaven and now he is still attacking us to this very day. “He (Satan) now seeks to destroy all that is good and God ordained, and this strategy ever since his fall has been tempt us with the same agenda he had- to be like God,” said Pastor Chip Ingram (Invisible War P. 47). Satan knows that we are one of His amazing creations, therefore; he wanted to destroy all that’s good created by God. Yet, we are one of them. God, loves us very much to the point where He is willingly to send His Son Jesus Christ to die for us. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life,” says John 3:16 (ESV).
How do I protect myself from spiritual warfare?
Don’t be afraid, God is with us. He reminds us to put on our spiritual armor also known as the armor of God, says in Ephesians 6:10, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.” (ESV)
