Most people have heard of the term “fad-diets”, but often are unsure of the results and also the health concerns that are included with them. Fad-diets are diets that promise quick weight-loss and are usually done in a unhealthy way by restricting nutrition that your body needs. Many people try these extreme diets in order to lose weight fast, and some maybe successful but often times their doing more harm than good and end up gaining all or most of their weight they lost back. Some common fad-diets are high-protein diets, liquid diets, juice or broth based diets, grapefruit diet, and crazy for cabbage diet. All of these diets cut out essential nutrition that your body needs and by doing so you can cause lasting damage in your body. Many problems can occur like a increased chance of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, and osteoporosis. It is also prone to poor weight control since your body is going through a “yo-yo” effect of gaining and losing weight.
There are better and healthier ways to lose weight and maintain that weight. It doesn’t happen overnight but your body will thank you in the long run. I am a firm believer that you shouldn’t cut the things you love out of your diet, but eat things in moderation and try to include more fruits and vegetables. I love to cook and there is nothing better than making a meal for your family that is homemade and full of flavor. By using simple, fresh ingredients and not cutting ingredients like whole grains, dairy, fruits and vegetables you too can make a lasting difference for your health.
