As we know, many Metro State Students come to class and then immediately leave, but chances are they might pick up a coffee along the way. Metro State University is located on the east side of St.Paul, but a lot of students aren’t familiar with what is offered around them. There are two great coffee shops that are located just blocks from Metro State; Swede Hollow Cafe and the Goat House, and students should take advantage of the discounts they offer.

Swede Hollow is a small cafe that has a varied menu. They offer soups, salads and sandwiches for lunch as well as a selection of pastries and other snacks. I would suggest their vanilla latte, I thought it was very good! They also have delicious, strong cold press coffee, if you’re looking for a kick! This cafe is located in a small house, and includes the upstairs seating area and a seasonal patio out back. The environment is friendly and cozy—and the drinks and food are awesome! Much of their produce is sourced from Urban Roots, a local CSA located just across E. 7th St. on Moriah Ave. They offer a 10% discount with a student ID. One thing to watch out for with this cafe are the hours. They close at 3pm during the week, and are closed on Sundays.

The Goat Coffeehouse is another recommended coffee house located on 699 E. 7th St, very close to campus! They offer a Metro State Student discount of 10% off as well. This is the perfect place to stop before class, morning or night. They stay open until 7pm. Goat house has both a drink and food menu. I had the opportunity to try an iced latte. I didn’t get the chance to try anything on their food menu because there wasn’t much to pick from. Again, on the smaller side of things, but very comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The Goat House is a perfect place to study and do homework.
